The world of internet marketing is no different than the world of traditional business. There are certain strategies you can use to get ahead and drastically build and/or grow you business. I am just going to tell you about 4 strategies that have been extremely effective for internet marketers. More importantly I will tell you why these strategies have been so effective for internet marketing specifically.

Internet marketing strategies #1 - make it easy to manage your website

Find content management systems or website design software that allows you to changes to your site very easily. The easier it is to setup and manage your website the more time you have to focus on other aspects that matter more, such as your marketing efforts. I often coach internet marketers and the first thing I find out that they are so busy trying to "save" money that they sometimes waste several days working on their website. There are content management systems out there that cost a little more, but are worth it because it gives you more time to make money. The reward is much higher than the amounts you put out to get access to these types of systems.

Internet marketing strategy #2 -Expect some basic expenses

So many people that get into internet marketing expect to be able to everything for nothing. Even though there are quite a bit of things that can be done without any costs, you are always going to be faced with certain expenses. Just your basic costs for running a website and having a good auto-responder system is going to cost you about $30-40 a month. In addition if you want to do effective advertising you should expect to spend some money on SEO and PPC as well. Do what any business should do, take at least 7-10% of what you earn and put it back into marketing. In the beginning you can estimate that you will need to put out that same percentage of what you would like to make. This means that if you would like to make $1.000 expect to spend $70-$100 making it. Your best marketing expenses can be investing in educational material.

Internet marketing strategy #3 - Find good information or mentors

You can do this in one of two ways, either hire someone or gather as much information as you can by doing research. The faster way of the two, is probably hiring a mentor and boost you into making money online very quickly. The gathering and information learning that way require two things of you, first you need to be able to look at what they are doing and understand why they do it that way. The other one is simply getting all the free guides that are given away. You would be amazed with the amount of information that is given away. The downside or possibly a good bonus is that you will probably be required to sign up for multiple opt-in lists to get them. I know people that subscribe to 8-10 different mailing lists just to get access to free information. If you pick the mailing lists you sign up to wisely you can learn quite a bit. Of course buying a book on SEO or hiring a mentor will be quicker and easier, if you find a good one they will be able to work with you and help you understand exactly what it is that you need to do.

Internet marketing strategy #4 - Be active online

Of course you have to actively advertise online that is pretty much a given. One of the extremely underestimated strategies for new internet marketers is the power of chat forums and the willingness to give away advice and help to others. This can be good strategy for those who actually information instead of an actual product, even though it can be great for some products as well. When you chat, and do chat forum advice correctly it can bring you quite a bit of traffic. Do not even try to push people to your product by saying things like "You can find the answer in this product". Make the sale by giving away part of the advice and then you can tell people where you found the information. This is much more effective than telling someone to "buy" the answer. Another way you can be active online is to give away information in other ways, such as maintaining a blog or some other form of free advice or help. No matter which way you choose, giving away information can be effective when done right.

If you think about these 4 strategies they all relate in one way or another, they all deal with how to manage your time and how to invest. There are of course a few more things you need to keep in mind. But these four very basic strategies should at least get you started. I wish you the best of luck with your internet marketing business, if you foundation is good and you understand how to manage your time and your money, you will do great with online marketing. Just like you would with a traditional business, the great news is the risk behind starting an online business is far less of an investment than starting a brick and mortar business.

Marketing with articles is an easy and profitable endeavor, if done correctly.

Follow these 6 tips to dramatically improve your article writing marketing skills:

1. Not everyone writes well enough to convince readers to act. You should have someone evaluate your articles and give you honest feedback on their reaction. If the feedback is negative and you feel you can't write better, you can pay a ghostwriter to write your articles for you at a few dollars a pop. However, the more you write, the better you'll get. So, keep working at it.

2. Take the time to test your author's resource box. Write a few different versions and see which seems to draw in more visitors to your the site you are pointing your reader to. Allow enough trials to make sure it is your resource box content that is working and not just the article itself. Test it until you have around 500 views for each version before you change anything.

3. If people aren't visiting your website like you want, something isn't working within your articles. Try changing your resource box. Compare yours to other authors' articles that write about similar topics. Can you change something to make it work better? Use others as a reference.

4. Many article directories do not allow software submitters. Manually submit to the best sites and hire a submission company to submit to the rest. Don't use the software intended for this unless you feel it is completely necessary. Quality always outweighs quantity.

5. Schedule a designated amount of time to write and submit articles into your work schedule. It can be daily, every few days, weekly, etc. If you want a lot of links in a short period of time, try submitting an article every day for an entire month. After that month, it doesn't matter whether you submit one on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule. The important thing is that you take action and actually do write and submit on a regular basis. Do Something!

6. Spelling and grammar are more important than you may realize. Never submit an article until you have checked it at least twice for spelling errors and grammatically incorrect sentences. Don't allow these two things to be your downfall. Spelling errors are an article reviewers pet peeve and they will make you correct them before they accept it.

Links into your website from other websites are one of the key factors that Google uses to determine your PageRank, Link Popularity and consequently relevancy and success in its listings.

Relevant links into your website help to raise your Google search engine rankings because a link into your website is considered by Google to be a vote for your website, or more specifically a vote for the page on your website that the external website links to.

The more links into your website the more votes and the more "important" Google considers it to be. Furthermore the higher the quality of the website that links to yours, then the more important their vote for you. So it's important to get as many links into your website as possible, and also get as many high quality links in as you can, from other important websites.

What form does this link into your website need to be? The best format for the inbound link to your website is as a text link, with relevant link text, and by that I mean that the words that the page uses to link to your website should be relevant to the page on your website which the link points to. This relevant link text helps Google to build an accurate "picture" of what the page that is linked to is about, and so helps build your relevancy score.

But what about PageRank you ask? PageRank (PR) is a critical measure of the importance of any web page as determined by Google, and it is important to factor in the PageRank of webpages that link to yours. But more importance is the relevancy! Linking from an unrelated high PR page to yours will not carry too much value for you, and in fact may harm your own success on Google: if you have too many non-relevant links in to your page it can smack of non-natural link popularity growth and you can be penalised.

Add to this the fact that it also important to vary the text that is used to link into your website to ensure you do not get penalised for unnatural link growth, and also develop links into the interior pages of your website as well as just the home page.

So now the big question: how to grow these links into your website? There are several method:

1. Hire a search engine optimiser, which can be expensive.

2. Buy links into your website. Be careful to ensure you don't set off any red flags with Google, and definitely DO NOT get involved with any link farms.

3. Approach your customers and suppliers and ask for links from them - the preferred method!

After 105 days Google finally updated PR. And its about time. There for awhile you couldnt swing a dead cat and not hit an anxious post on a seo forum wondering where the update was.

Still you cant blame them for asking. PR obsession is catchy. (And you know if you're obsessed.) Besides when you have a metric to help identify a higher quality link trade from a lesser one, why not use it?

But maybe its time to start thinking in terms of linking in a post PR world. You know without consideration of that little green bar of PR. (gasp) Well, okay what was I thinking? Lets not go that far - yet!

Yet if 105 days between PR updates becomes the standard maybe we should discuss what owners of PR challenged sites can do to get links. As long as we can agree none of the ideas Im about to share will work nearly as well as having PR 6 links pages.

Agreed? Good. Then lets pass GO and see if we cant collect $200. Or at least snag a few links for those PR 2 or PR 3 sites waiting for the next PR update by using "bundling" or "multiplying". Starting with a

===> Link Bundle Up

By "bundle up" I mean to sneak in one or two lower pagerank sites along with a site with decent PR in the link swap request. Put your potential partners linking info on all sites. Email your linking info for all including the PR challenged sites. Then see how many take the bait. The decent PR link could just be the sugar that helps them swallow trading links with a zero PR site. Especially if you point out you have a history of developing high PR sites.

===> Link Bundle Up - All or None

Place more than one linking opportunity on your add url page. And insist that to get any links a link partner must link to all.

===> Link Bundle Up - Ethical Bribe

You might call this one "being creative" so put on your thinking cap. Come up with an answer for the question "What can I offer in exchange for a link?"

Reason for asking? I just got an email from an apparently brand new PPC offering me three things:

  • a customized toolbar to give to my customers

  • rights to 2 CDs worth of stuff to give away

  • $50 worth of clicks
An appealing package, no? All for just a link? Why not?

Sure you may not have that much to offer. But maybe you could put together a commercial grade special report to give away as an inducement? Which could be used as a bonus for new subs or bundled in with their product. Made all the more appealing if it has links to your product your partner could brand with their affiliate ID?

===> Link Multiplication

Lets unleash the horse trader in you. Offer a 3:1, 5:1, or whatever it takes for one - link swap. Making it clear that by helping you with one link your partner stands to gain so much more. Especially since once PR updates theyll have X high PR links back to their site from yours. All for the price of one measly link to you. Put that way theyre really helping themselves arent they?

===> More Link Multiplication

Offer a link on your links page plus throw in a directory link.

Even better heres where you can get a nifty directory script - no charge. Its called Link Management Assistant. http://www.onlinemarketingtoday.com/software/link-management

Using a tightly themed directory as a link magnet has the potential to take on a life of its own. As it pulls in links to your site by the droves.

So there you have it. Five ways to bundle or multiply your linking opportunities.

Look, we traded links long before Google pagerank even existed. So while those around you are suffering from "poor PR" angst it might not be a bad idea to test other ways to get links dont you think?

Sure its more work.

Yes your hit rate will probably be less than if youre offering a link from a page sporting PR 6.

But any links you do land will be better than nothing, right? And can jumpstart your link building efforts. Even when dealing with the PR obsessed - while you wait for the next 105 days to pass. Ooops, just kidding about that 105 days part. I hope.

I like to read articles. I guess I am not the only one I say with a smile, since I guess that is the point of article directories. Sometimes I am very impressed by the depth and quality of an article. When I read one of these, I usually feel inspired to step up my game a little when writing my articles.

The problem with this is that as soon as I try to go a little deeper with one of my articles, they start to get longer and longer. This is bad for two reasons. Longer articles don't get read any more, if anything, they get read less. Second, I am getting less return on my investment of time.

Let me explain, if it takes me 30 to 45 min to write an article, that time is my investment for the number of visitors that I hope to inspire to come to my site. If I spend 1 hour or even more, and I get the same results, then that is not as good of an investment of my time.

You might say, well I like writing more in-depth articles and I don't care if I have to put a little more time into each one. The truth is you should like writing better and more in-depth content. This is how you will share your expertise with the world. The place for that content is on your website.

It is important to remember the role of each step of the process. And the role of the article is an appetizer. Not some cheap filler food, or a nibble, but a good healthy quality appetizer. But afterwards, you want the reader to be so impressed, that they want to go to your site and get the full meal.

So, how do you get the greatest return on your investment when an article does get a little long? Article sets. Turn your article into two or more articles. You can even turn them into parts if you need to add on a little more information. But, if you build multiple articles, you will get more visitors for the effort, and you will be giving your readers the size bites they have shown us they like to read.

In the world of online industry, the impact that links can bring onto a site is very high and crucial. It is the desire of any webmaster to attain the website popularity order to attract more links to get associated with it. In order to do that, there are things that you would not want to do to increase your link popularity. Below are some of these:

1. Never use any unoriginal and copied contents to build link popularity on your site. The mere fact that your intention to use these copied materials is to gain popularity at the expense of other people's ingenuity; your site is considered unpopular. Always maintain a high integrity of providing an all original and 100% plagiarism-free contents.

2. Do not attempt to obtain popularity through spamming. Some webmasters are posting their website's URL to forums even though they don't have anything important to share. Their main objective? Get as much link as possible. This is considered spamming and is subject to penalties like account suspension.

3. Do not goad people by making a false promise of generating more money just by clicking or making a visit on your site or opening the e-mail and clicking the links on the e-mail. This is a clear indication of shamming.

4. Do not in any way threat or promote fraudulent activity on your articles or newsletter just so you can gain extra mileage or exposure.

5. Never indulge into using "trash" links just so you can show to other sites that you have many links on your site. These trash links are clear indication of misleading other sites who have better intentions than promote fraudulence and malicious activities online.

6. Never engage on false promises that other directory sites are giving to sites which aspire for better and more link popularity. This is just going to be a waste of money and effort on your end.

There is no other word to the fact that how much back links are important for the optimization of a web site and for getting high PR. Back links are of three types:

  • One way links
  • Two way or Reciprocal Links
  • Paid Links

Among the three obviously one way links are best for the optimization of a site.

Ways to get One Way Links:

  • Submission to free Directories
  • One way free links could be get through free Submission into directories that allow one way link submission. Links need to be added only in the relevant categories. Few directories submit link immediately. But most of the directories go for manual review of the site that whether they are relevant to the category stated or not and after review they approve or reject the website.

The duration of the review may range from one week to several months and it normally differs for one directory to another.

High Quality website or directories provide one way links through paid submissions.

  • Social Book-marking Sites
  • Social Book-marking sites are also known as social networking sites. Registered users can store the links to the web pages that they find useful. They can access the links from anywhere anytime by logging into their account. The links are accessible to other users also in the network and to the public even. Thereby these links help in search engine optimization for the sites also. Other people with similar interests can view the links by category, tags, or even randomly. Some allow for privacy on a per-bookmark basis.

Most social book marking services allow users to search for bookmarks which are associated with given "tags", and rank the resources by the number of users which have bookmarked them. This helps in drawing a lot of potential traffic to the site.

Social Book marking sites are one of the best sources of getting one way free links to the web pages.

  • Blog Submission
  • Blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. We can use blogs to let people know about our website. Blogs solves the similar purpose as articles do and are very popular among internet searchers and thus can bring good amount of traffic.

There are a number of blog sites where one can post his blog. And for SEO one can include a link in the blog to direct a visitor to the blog to the web page.

  • Article Submission
  • Article is posted basically to provide information to the readers. One can provide useful information to the readers usually relevant to the theme of the web site and then tempt the readers to refer the website for more relevant information by providing the link to the web page in the article. A number of good article directories are available where one can post his article for free. Ezinearticles, Article City, etc. are few of them.

Articles have also proved to be a very meaningful resource for getting one way link. With the help of articles a Website owner can draw a good amount of potential visitors to the site.

  • RSS Submission
  • RSS means Really Simple Syndication. RSS is a group of web feeds used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, announcements, launch of a new product. An RSS document, which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. There we can include links to the web site pages for which we want to get one way links. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner which is easier than checking them manually. The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

  • Press Release submission
  • A Press Release or press statement is a recorded statement for making announcements. With the help of press releases one can provide important announcements regarding the web sites information such as launch of new products, services, or news conferences, events, etc.

These press releases could be submitted in Press Release Sites with the link to the web page. Thereby through press release submission also one can get valuable one way links.

Wow, check out Ron Paul's Internet Marketing campaign!

Without doubt, Ron Paul's success on the Internet is nothing short of amazing. His team's approach has been ground breaking in the way they've applied Internet Marketing techniques, not only to reach potential supporters, but to attract a significant number of contributors.

Although not currently one of the frontrunners, Ron Paul is now being called an "Internet Phenomenon" by many political strategists.

While the Internet Marketing strategies being used by Ron Paul's team are not necessarily unique, the dedication his team has shown in reaching potential supporters online has been outstanding. By deploying a very aggressive Internet Marketing campaign, Ron Paul's team has attracted a flood of contributors and a huge number of avid supporters.

In a very short period of time, Ron Paul's team has developed an enormous Internet presence. In fact, anyone who's been online in the past six months has certainly seen multiple references to Ron Paul on the news or social media sites.

If you consider the raw numbers, Ron Paul's Internet Marketing strategy leaves his competition in the dust - and it's a big reason he's still in the race:

Consider the facts ...

Last month, Ron Paul's site had well over a MILLION visitors, more than all other Republican candidates combined!

In one day, Ron Paul's team raised over $6 Million dollars on the internet.

They raised approximately $20 Million Dollars in the 4th quarter of 2007 alone.

On YouTube, there are 109,000 videos currently available about him.

And in the past month there have been over 89,000 blog posts about him, according to Google.

The bottom line ... Ron Paul's focus on Internet Marketing is changing the face of political campaign strategies.

Ron Paul is not the only candidate making use of the Internet ... on the other side of the aisle, Barack Obama's team has deployed a very well designed Internet Marketing strategy - over 728,00 visitors last month - and has been very effective in reaching potential supporters and contributors in his own right.

An Objective View

My analysis of Ron Paul's internet success is purely driven by curiosity; I have no political affiliation or opinion of Ron Paul's political platform.

What intrigues me about Ron Paul's Internet strategy is not only the response he's received (over a Million visitors last month), it's the number of contributors he's attracted and the dedicated constituency he's built on the Internet. With a major part of his communications being conveyed via the Internet, Ron Paul's campaign team has demonstrated beyond any doubt that Internet Marketing is a formidable tool in building a successful political campaign strategy.

Perhaps the Ron Paul campaign chose to focus more on Internet strategies and less on other media simply due to budget constraints. Whatever the reason, their decision to use the Internet as an integral part of their campaign strategy is undoubtedly a big reason he's still in the race.

This is not the first time we've seen a candidate deploy an Internet Marketing strategy as a part of a political campaign strategy - but it may be the first major campaign that has used the Internet as a primary part of their campaign strategy.

So, what does this say about future political campaigns and the tactics that will be developed to exploit the enormous potential of the Internet?

Political campaign teams can be very creative in developing marketing methods and I have no doubt we will learn a great deal concerning Internet Marketing by watching the successful political campaigns.

If 'necessity is the mother of invention', then the Internet Marketing strategies being developed by political campaign teams like Ron Paul's will no doubt be leveraged by other organizations to help build their own visibility and success.

Ron Paul's Internet Strategy

So, what does Ron Paul's team do differently?

The short answer lies not in what his team does, as much as it does with how his team 'works' their strategy.

First, the Internet Marketing strategy Ron Paul's team has implemented focuses on some very basic Search Engine Marketing tactics:

Website optimization,

Compelling content,

Intuitive site navigation,

Social Media,

Press Releases,

Videos,

Blogging,

RSS feeds

Email Marketing, Newsletters, & Breaking News

Pretty straight forward, right? No real surprises here with the exception that Ron Paul's team does not really use of PPC strategies to any great extent.

The real difference lies is the way Ron Paul's team implements their tactics, especially when compared to other Presidential contenders' strategies.

The body of the site contains very compelling content that is easy to find and leads you to endless amounts of interesting information concerning Ron Paul.

Maybe the most obvious difference is Ron Paul's site is constantly being updated and changed; the team adds new information daily and continually works to improve their Search Engine visibility using well attended blogs, Press Releases, and Social Media.

Overall, the Ron Paul team has deployed a very solid website in a short period of time. Not that every part of the site is perfect, but the good points far outweigh the bad. In fact, with just a few slight changes, the Ron Paul website could serve as a great model for other political candidates.

One somewhat insignificant difference, but one that I personally like about Ron Paul's website, is that his team does not use an annoying Splash page as many other candidates do.

I know splash pages look good to the website owner, but they're almost always a waste of time since most people just want to get to what they came to the site to see - in this case, information about Ron Paul!

The 'home' page Ron Paul's team has designed is very intuitive and easy to navigate. They've placed breaking news, volunteer sign up, Blog access, and an excellent menu of choices that covers everything from Ron Paul's position on the major issues to videos and recordings of his major appearances.

Looking at the foundation of the website, Meta Title tags are the same for all pages. Concerning the Meta Descriptions, they're also identical across all the pages of the website, so the Search Engines choose their own descriptions to display with the Ron Paul listing. Not recommended, but it probably causes no real harm in this case.

Looking deeper, the site could use some fine tuning, adding Alt tag descriptions that contain more keywords would help; as well as adding unique Meta Descriptions for each page.

Links into the page are almost non-existent and I would recommend adding a number of related, quality inbound links to the site. It couldn't hurt and would probably drive even more traffic to the website and/or Blog.

The site could also use some additional keyword research to help Ron Paul key in on the potential voters who are not familiar with him, and to present his message to more of them.

The Ron Paul interactive videos on top of the 'Issues' page are a great addition. It seems to me if more detail were added concerning Ron Paul's stance on the issues, it would be a more valuable contribution to the site.

Although there are some obvious opportunities for improvement; given the website's presentation, the information available, and ease of use, I give Ron Paul's team very good marks in the SEO category.

Social Media Strategies

Ron Paul's team's approach to social media marketing has made him a Republican powerhouse. His campaign team understands social media and knows how to use it.

From photos and videos to networking, Ron Paul can be found across the Internet.

Most candidates' teams have begun to use social media sites but most of them don't seem to be very active on them. Ron Paul's team excels

here because they are very active - they make continuous updates on his social media profiles all hours of the day.

Increasingly, as new generations enter the voting ranks, social media is becoming an indispensable part of successful political campaigns. The current generation of younger voters has grown up using the Internet as their primary means of communication. It's second nature for them to use the Internet to gain and share information.

Currently on MySpace, Ron Paul shows over 273,000 friends, Facebook shows over 205,000, and YouTube has over 109,000 videos under his name.

On the Ron Paul Blog, links to submit posts to Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious and others are available. Also helpful, is the RSS feed button that's displayed in the upper part of the left column. Having an RSS feed signup on the blog helps to promote the blog even further in the social media outlets.

When you look at the popularity of Ron Paul on the social media sites and compare the other candidates to him, he is definitely using the social networks more than other candidates to promote his grassroots efforts.

Blogging Strategies

Ron Paul has a very active Blog. His team consistently posts new information and breaking news all hours of the day. The Ron Paul team knows they have a very active and captive audience on the blog and they actively cater to them.

There's an RSS button to easily subscribe to blog updates and links to YouTube and other social media are scattered throughout the page to promote Blog entries.

Overall, Ron Paul's campaign team has done an outstanding job developing and deploying a very effective Internet Marketing strategy.

Summary

Internet Marketing is quickly becoming an integral part of nearly every political campaign.

Increasingly, the Internet is becoming a news and recruiting source that is irreplaceable in major political campaigns.

Pressed for campaign funds, both Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul have used the Internet as a very cost effective way to get their message across to potential contributors and voters.

Without their efforts on the Internet, it could be argued that very few people would have ever heard of either candidate. While both candidates are underdogs, they probably would not even still be in the race without their well orchestrated Internet Marketing campaigns.

How much of Ron Paul's or Mike Huckabee's success is due to their Internet Marketing efforts? There's no doubt Internet viewers looking for information concerning these candidates have had no problem finding it on the Internet.

The real question is how many potential voters will actually be affected by the Internet Marketing they come into contact with? Judging from over a Million visitors to Ron Paul's website and the amount of contributors he's been able to inspire, there can be no doubt many potential voters have been directly affected by the Internet Marketing strategy his team has deployed.

It's now clear Political Internet Marketing is a very effective campaign tool and will continue to be an increasingly important part of successful political campaigns well into the future.

Matt Cutts On Article Marketing

Article marketing has just become an even more powerful form of web promotion. This well known, tried and tested web marketing tool, had, in some people's eyes, lost part of its value in recent years. Article marketing in now back in fashion however, as Google have started to clamp down on paid links and excessive reciprocal links. No longer are people able to just buy their way to the top, it is now the grafters, people like you and me, who are willing and happy to produce quality content for the web, that will once again rise to the top of those all important rankings - let the good times roll.

My name is Steve Hill; I have seen very positive results from this form of web marketing and often advise people that this is how, in my opinion, they should go about promoting their website/s. So often in the past these people have stated that they do not have the time to write and submit articles, or that why should they start to write when they can just purchase a pr7 backward link on ebay for three months to gain the same results? I always found it hard to answer that question, but Matt Cutts and his crew have now made it a whole lot easier.

Certain people will still take chances on purchasing backward links, perhaps they are lazy, perhaps they are stupid! Why take the risk? If you set yourself a goal to write say twenty articles per month, you will soon see your site moving up the rankings. Yes it is hard work, it is quite boring work at times, and yes it will take time to have an effect, but have an effect it will.

Some people argue that article marketing does not work due to duplicate content. This would be true if you were also including the same article that you have submitted to sites like ezinearticles, on your own website, but let's face it, that would be rather daft!

Steve Hill is a webmaster from Birmingham, he has interests in a number of websites including:

stuttering
cheaper telephone calls
dvd replication

Search engine optimization is made up of relevant content, fresh content, and link population. I say this many times every day. However, an argument still exist out in the Internet Nation of whether you should spend more time on your content and on getting links to your web site.

Content is King saith the link opposition. It is truecontent is important. If you are not providing new content to the internet that is useful, enlightening, and down right interesting, you have a problem. Search engines download your entire web site (textually speaking) to determine what your web site is relevant to. The process is far more complicated but you get the general idea.

If a web site pertaining to cars has an encyclopedia of one million pages of car repair, car classifieds, car information, car related products, and car articles, it is very easy to see that this site is highly relevant to the term cars.

But what if our million page mammoth doesnt have any web sites linking to it? Realistically, that is not going to happenbut lets pretend.

Links to a web site are a symbol of good quality. After all, would a thousand people relate their web site to a web site that was not relevant nor useful? No usually. This is why Google particularly puts so much emphasis on link population. Your local car shop may have five hundred relevant links to it and only ten pages within the web site.

However, it is likely that your local car shop will rank higher than the car web site with over one million pages of content. Why? Because content is like weight. Ten pounds of gold may weigh the same as ten pounds of cotton but the value is still greater.

So one million pages of relevant useless content can be lost in the search engines because nobody is linking to it. Of course, with that much content, someone in a blog, web site, or forum is bound to make reference and link to the sitebut not if the content is useless.

What to do. Content comes first. Create a lot of good content. You are in business because you have something that others dont. Be it a product, ability to make a product, ability to perform a service, or a license to do a service, you have something that others do not. With that, you naturally have knowledge that others do not. Share that knowledge. Knowledge is equal to the aforementioned ten pounds of gold.

Once you have your knowledge on your web site, you can begin doing link exchanges and also receiving unrequested links to your web siteall because you now have useful, relevant, and interesting content. In the case of Content vs. Links, the verdict is simple. Both are important but content needs to come first and be useful. Links come after useful content and they need to be from relevant web sites.

Although more people discover the power of article marketing every day, many fail to learn some simple techniques to optimize their writing and maximize the effectiveness of their article marketing campaigns. The following paragraphs will reveal six critical mistakes that must be avoided if you want to reap the full fruits of your article writing efforts.

The first three mistakes fall within the category of "Guideline Awareness." The rule of thumb is to be familiar with the guidelines of the directories where you submit your articles, so that you can better use them to your advantage.

Mistake #1: Failure to Use Hyperlinks in Article Body

Some article directories will not allow any hyperlinks in the body, but most will allow from one to three. Convert your target keywords to hyperlinks to the extent possible; this will bring your website direct traffic through clicks and it will help to improve your site's search engine rankings for that keyword.

Mistake #2: Ineffective Use of Author Resource Box

The author resource box, sometimes called the boilerplate, is an area where you can sell yourself. This is important, because the article itself should not be used for overt advertising, only for teaching and informing. Use your name, or a pen name; over time, people will associate the mane with the topic, and you will be established as a trusted expert in your field. Once they trust that you know your stuff, they will not hesitate to visit your site and buy your product or service.

Mistake #3: Article Length - Too Short or Too Long

Webmasters, bloggers, and newsletter publishers are constantly in need of fresh, original content. That is what makes article marketing so powerful. When someone picks up your article and publishes it on the web or in a mass-email, it multiplies your exposure. However, many people write a paltry 100 words to submit to an article directory, which amounts to little more than a dictionary definition of their chosen topic. At the other end of the spectrum, some people will submit works of more than 2000 words; on the web or in a newsletter, that is an epic-length tome.

Opinions vary as to the optimum length of an article, nut the consensus is between 400 and 900 words. It should be long enough to thoroughly explain the subject, but short enough to read quickly and easily.

The next three mistakes concern the actual submission of articles to directories. They are not so much "rules" as they are strong suggestions to maximize your results.

Mistake #4: Submitting to Too Few Article Directories

After the effort of writing the piece itself, it may seem like a tedious chore to submit the work to twenty directories. If it is too much for you, there are services that will manually submit your articles for you. If you cannot afford such luxuries, then you must do it yourself. Do not compromise on this; it is critical to your success. Find at least twelve article directories for starters, and build from there. Once you get to about twenty, you are doing well.

Mistake #5: Using the Same Pen Name for Different Topics

If you have multiple websites in different niches, use a unique pen name for each topic. It's all about credibility. If Sally McMarketer writes about designer dog collars, can she be equally trusted as an expert on high-performance fuel-injectors? In reality, it is not uncommon for people to have proficiencies in multiple areas, but unless you personally know the dog collar/fuel-injector guru, it seems unlikely.

Mistake #6: Submitting Website Content as Articles

One of the worst things an article marketer can do is to take the content directly from their website and submit it in article form to the directories. Remember, you want to submit your work to twelve to twenty article directories or so in order to get traffic and backlinks to your website. However, if the articles contain the exact same information as your website, the search engines will view it as duplicate content, which may be downgraded in the rankings. Besides, readers of your articles will be a bit put off if they click on one of your well-placed hyperlinks only to see the same old stuff on your site. Keep your website content unique.

Article marketing, like any good, profitable endeavor, requires work, education, and practice. You can, and should, constantly refine your techniques in search of ever better results. If you can avoid the six misstates discussed above, you will be well on your way to becoming a proficient marketer with a growing, moneymaking business.

Article Ranger is a free submission article directory where authors may post articles about subjects of interest, and publishers may pick up articles for use in ezines, newsletters, etc.

Dabbling in SEO Artistry

On July 14th 2006, on a whim, I decided to enter a SEO contest. At the time I really had no idea what this would involve.

The Ambatchdotcom Seocontest is 2 months old and surprisingly, at least to me, I'm doing fairly well.

The object of the SEO contest is to create a web site, or a page, optimized for the search phrase ‘ambatchdotcom seocontest' and to achieve the top ranking in Google for that phrase. The contest ends on October 20th 2006

On July 14th a search for ambatchdotcom seocontest returned no results. Today, the same search will show 941,000 results. Today, you can find my ambatchdotcom seocontest entry on page 1 in the third position. Not too shabby for someone just dabbling.

In my opinion, SEO is part science, part art, part luck and a lot of instinct.

After working for the first time at targeting a specific key word I have formed some opinions on best practices for SEO.

  1. Know your topic. When it comes to a contest of this type, it's impossible to know your topic because the key word or key phrase for a contest is usually a meaningless term but that creates a challenge to provide content. Very similar to someone attempting to build a site around a subject when they have no real knowledge of the topic.
  2. Once you know which topic you are going to cover, pick your target keywords. Do your research and look for niche keywords. There are many online services that offer keyword suggestions.
  3. Determine your main target keyword and attempt to get it in your domain name. While having your keyword or key phrase in your domain name does not guarantee top search engine placement, it certainly holds an advantage.
  4. Use meta tags effectively. Use the title, keyword and description meta tags to your advantage. Use your keywords in the title tag and description but avoid keyword stuffing as it can get you banned by some search engines.
  5. Build content for visitors. Write your content for the people you are targeting first. Then go back over and tweak it with some appropriate keywords.
  6. Fresh content. The search engines like fresh content so it's not enough to build a site and forget it. It's a perpetual job to keep your site dynamic and fresh.
  7. Get backlinks. Organically, backlinks happen when other sites find your site to be a valuable resource and voluntarily link to it but with the sheer volume of sites on the internet, it's a hard climb to get those organic links. Submit to directories, exchange links with relevant sites and submit articles to get your site name out there and visible.
Personally I think that any webmaster doing their own SEO should attempt a SEO Contest at some point. I think it can be a valuable learning tool in really discovering what works and what doesn't on a level playing field. There aren't many other opportunities to target a keyword that has no competition.

One of my favorite movies was Glengary Glen Ross with Alec Baldwin.

In the movie, Alec Baldwin was a tough as nails sales manager. He coined the term "ABC". It meant "always be closing". He used the term frequently throughout the movie. Constantly pounding and barking in the heads of the sales people to close the deal.

Guess what?

There is a similar term that you should embed in your head as it directly relates to building a list. It's a powerful concept that you should understand and apply to your list building tactics today.

I call it "ABT." It means "Always Be Testing."

This one term literally separates the winners from the losers. Now I realize you may not exactly know what to test and how to test. Frankly, that's a common problem so don't feel bad.

To give you some examples, testing could include:

1) Where your traffic is coming from and the quality of it
2) Components on your opt-in page
3) The entire conversion process from interested party to new subscriber
4) The choice to include graphics or exclude them

You are probably thinking that there is an overwhelming amount of things you can test. And it's true - the number of things you can test is virtually endless.

And that's the rub or in less fancy words - the problem. People often get so confused by testing - they just decide to avoid it all together.

But that would be a bad move. So in my grizzled Alec Baldwin voice I say to you - "Always Be Testing."

Automatic Link Exchange Factors

Automatic link exchange is the method of links being instantaneously switched over with other Internet websites. There are assorted ways of arranging an automatic link exchange with webmasters. The quickest and most effective way to forward emails to another website owner is to perform an automatic link exchange. Many computer users visit webmaster discussion boards which offer a specific automatic link exchange forum where different webmasters can actually request an instantaneous link exchange, whether its a particular category or even open to the public. The control panel edits and deletes the links automatically. Automatic link exchange detects the various links that do not respond and you can immediately notify the website owners or simply delete the links with one click.

Automatic link exchange directories are used frequently by several webmasters to attempt and build up their link popularity generally by searching for other proficient webmasters listed in the directory who are looking for link trades. The majority of these automatic link exchange directories charge a nominal fee for the access to the webmaster directory or even the database. However, one can find many free link exchange directories on the Internet. Often at times extremely useful, the automatic link exchange is viable. However, its wise to be cautious with whom you trade the links. Getting in the habit of trading with the wrong site can have a horrific impact on your own Internet website. The safest bet is to maintain a specific and secured linking method where you neither accept links from certain non-related Internet websites nor even post links to these non-related Internet websites.

Discovering websites via the automatic link exchange that resemble your own Internet website may be quite difficult. However, its important to note that the end result is usually at best when simply linking to a multitude of websites that arent in your particular industry whatsoever. In other words, with the automatic link exchange, its much more achievable to find ten links from Internet websites that are similar to your own than finding plenty of links from Internet websites that are foreign to your demographics, interests and target market.

There are a host of considerations with the automatic link exchange. Its important to note that search engines look at the Internet websites that links to you and alludes to a particular theme for your own website. This is based on your own Internet website content as well as an assortment of content from the websites linking to your own. Various undiscovered and secret methods that the search engines use that are improbable to understand completely may not actually help with your specific cause in the automatic link exchange. Therefore, its not necessary to learn them.

There are a number of high-end quality Search Engine Optimising (SEO) and Marketing firms out there today. Ever wondered what is really involved when a website is put through its SEO maintenance check list. The following is an example of work that is normally carried out by professional SEO Company 360innovate.

ANALYSIS
Firstly, when a customer approaches 360 with a view to having SEO work carried out on their site the initial stage is to analyse the site and see what keywords they already target (if any) and also what on-site work needs to be done on the website (we call this on-page optimisation). It's a bit like having a health and safety assessment on your premises, we go through the nuts and bolts of your site, the text, images, layout, navigation, structure and usability features to make sure that its been built to a standard that enables your site to rank at its most optimum in the main search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask).

There are at least 200 individual areas we examine and check and it is a very important first stage that gets you started. Thankfully there are a lot of customers out there who have employed good designers who make sure that the initial work is done and that the first stages as described above can be kept to a minimum.

KEYWORD RESEARCH
Keyword research is a very important step used in identifying what people actually type in the search engines to find your product or services.

For example, most of our customers find us using "SEO Company", or "SEO Company UK", or just "SEO", but we also get traffic from "Search Engine Optimisation Company Scotland" or "Internet Marketing Company" plus a whole range of other sources.

Another factor to take into consideration is the conversion rate from a particular keyword search. Conversion rates can be determined by how many times it takes a unique visit to your site to actually buy something or even make an enquiry. There may be multiple reasons why your site is not converting from not targeting the correct traffic, bad design or navigation, perhaps your site suffers from a number of negatives that simply put people off from ordering/enquiring due to the lack of trust.

THE COMPETITION
We look at their site, not just once, but every day, we monitor changes, we log them, we work out why they are achieving such good results and we implement a strategy to better them.

KEYWORD DEFINITION
After extensive research into the keywords and phrases used in your industry we agree with you the amount of keywords that you wish us to focus on.

This will vary from customer to customer, some customers will only want us to focus on a small amount of keywords for their SEO campaign and some will want us to focus on thousands of keywords, this is also how we define how much time we spend on your site initially and on a ongoing basis and according how much it will cost.

ARTICLE SUBMISSIONS/PRESS RELEASES
We produce articles and on-line press releases related to your business on a monthly basis linked to the keywords we use in your campaign, with links to your site within the content. We then release/publish these documents within trusted on-line sites that the search engines like to visit and read on a regular basis, this in turn links back to your site and gives you favourable search engine listing results, as the search engines see you updating your content on a regular basis.

LINK BUILDING
We will seek to link your site to as many other trusted sites available that are in your industry, for example if you are a retailer, we would link your site to National Retail Federation, or if you were a restaurant, we would link your site to a trusted restaurant review site.

Link Building is a fundamental part of any SEO package. Search engines monitor the links pointing to your site. Gathering trusted links to your domain is a natural progression and any website that suddenly accumulates hundreds or thousands of links in a very short time frame will be flagged for underhand tactics and possibly put under review with a ban from the search engines being the favoured outcome. Not a good business strategy.

TIME SCALES
The time taken achieve good page one results differs according to how competitive your industry is, and anyone or company that guarantees you top ten results within a short time-frame be extremely cautious about employing them to carry out SEO work for you. However, If you have an uncompetitive keyword or phrase, then you can normally see results in about 6-12 weeks, if on the other hand you are in a fiercely competitive industry then it can be anywhere between 4-12 months.

ONGOING WORK
Everything spoken about here is not something that we do on one occasion, but is completely and utterly ongoing. It's best to see SEO or Internet Marketing as a pro-active approach. The guidelines are always changing. What may work well today may not tomorrow. There are other approaches that we have not even touched upon in this article such as viral marketing, blogging, email marketing, podcasts, video marketing and social media marketing. The web is a fluid market, if you stand still then your competitors will pass you by.

Paul Steven is an SEO Consultant with SEO Company North South Media who are experts in delivering SEO Services that are affordable and effective.

Many people who have websites are not totally up to date with what is considered to be search engine spamming. Having worked on search engine optimisation for a few clients, I have come across websites that are using spam techniques to help elevate search engine rankings. When I confronted clients about this, they honestly did not know they were using a form of spam nor did they realise the consequences if detected by the search engines.

So what is search engine spamming? A simple definition would be; deliberately designing website pages that offer poor and irrelevant content, and are used to trick search engines into ranking the content highly for inappropriate search results.

People tend to use spam as a way of attracting as many visitors to their website. When caught by the search engines, this will result in a major setback to business. Websites will be blacklisted from the search engines and chances are they will not appear in the index for a very long time.

Not sure if you are spamming? Below are a few common forms of spam techniques that you should avoid.

Doorway Pages Optimising a single webpage to perform exceptionally well in search engine ranks for a group of keyword phrases (keyword stuffing on the webpage). Once a user clicks on the link, they will be automatically redirected to a completely different website.

Invisible Text Using text that is not visible to the human eye (having the same colour text as the background colour). The invisible text will usually contain a large number of keywords (keyword stuffing).

Link Farms Joining community websites that provide large volumes of irrelevant links to your website.

Along with other forms of spam, these techniques should be avoided at all costs. If you are not sure whether your site uses some form of spam, then it would be best to contact a search engine optimisation specialist before it could result in your website being blacklisted.

Past clients who were using some form of spam and were not aware of it, had taken a big loss by having their website blacklisted in some search engines. The road to recovery can take very long and it is one that no one would like to follow. Be cautious!

Only two days after their acquisition of DoubleClick, Google soft launched Ad Manager to address the issue that publishers could spare more quality time providing the best content, instead of managing their own ad space. Many publishers do a challenging effort to maintain and manage their inventory to make sure the campaigns are served on time.

Google Ad Manager is a free, hosted ad and inventory management tool that can help publishers sell, schedule, deliver and measure their directly-sold and network-based ad inventory.

Now publishers can have more time resources to work on their user's experience. They can achieve maximized results while reducing ad management efforts. In simple words, less time, more control, more money using Google Ad Manager.
So what does Ad Manager feature to support its words?

Some of its key features are:

  • Inventory management. Simple ad tag generation and management
  • Yield optimization. Automatically maximize your CPMs or you can use AdSense to fill unsold inventory or compete on price against other ad networks.
  • Ad targeting. Target ads to your site visitors' geography, bandwidth, browser, browser language, operating system, and domain
  • Trafficking, ad delivery, and order booking
  • Creatives and rich media management
  • Multiple reporting options
  • User interface navigation
  • Account administration
  • Reliable inventory forecasting: Always know what inventory is available to sell.
Here are some questions from their FAQs may also popped out in your mind:

  1. Does Ad Manager require exclusivity? No. Ad Manager doesn't require exclusivity. You're free to use other ad management and ad serving products along with Google Ad Manager or switch to another provider at any time.
  2. Will I be restricted to AdSense as my ad network? No. You can use any ad network you like. With Google Ad Manager, you can optionally enable AdSense to deliver the best-paying ad source for each impression.

You may also asked, what's in it for Google? Well, since it's a free service, it's rather obvious they want to get more people join into their system. I don't mind that.

So, should you apply for Ad Manager? If you still manage your own ads because you have no problems doing so, go sign up and learn how ads are professionally managed to prepare yourself when your network becomes larger (this is your purpose, right?). And if you're now stirred with arranging your ad inventories which takes up half of your time in a day, you can hire someone to take over the job, or apply Ad Manager for free!
